About every six months someone from New York phones to say that my Halifax PLC shares are going to be taken over and they want me to sell the shares. They use my mother-in-Law's details. She died in 2014. I say "send me the details because you have my address". They never do that, only go through the same call six months later.

So I got a ring from someone who said they were calling from New York about some Lloyds shares (0013479835187). I told them I wasn’t aware I owned any shares, but they just brushed that off. They then asked for my email address, and I refused to give out personal details on the phone. They kept repeating the same request about three times, trying to persuade me. In the end, I told them I hadn’t had any word from my bank and that if they sent me something through the post, I’d have a look. That’s when I could tell they gave up on me!

This number rang me but since I didn’t know who it was I didn’t pick up. They didn’t leave any message either, so I’m pretty sure it was some sort of scam.

Got a phone call from this number earlier. The person on the other end said they were contacting on behalf of a client interested in buying shares in National Grid. They mentioned some kind of non-disclosure agreement. I told them straight up I wasn’t interested and wouldn’t sign anything like that. After that, she ended the call pretty politely. Definitely seemed like a scam to me, though I couldn't figure out what they hoped to gain.

I got a call from someone about Laura Ashley shares. I played along for a good five minutes, then told her we actually don’t own any shares. She just ended the call after that.

SCAM SCAM SCAM Lloyds share scam, offering to buy your shares at an inflated price, only after your personal and banking details. HANG UP AND DON'T GIVE ANY DETAILS.

Got a call about my late mother-in-law’s shares in National Grid, said there was some issue with her stock. They had her full name and where she lived. The bloke said he was from a firm looking at a hostile takeover, promising a big payout on the shares. He offered to send details by email or fax, but when I asked for something in writing, he said that wasn’t possible. We’ve lived at that address for more than five years and never seen a single letter or dividend from National Grid, so this felt like a total con. Watch out for this kind of scam!

Got a call about my ex hubby's shares in Scottish Power. They said he’d sold them ages back, but still considered a shareholder. I kept the chat going for ages. The number’s not been his for over 14 years, so looks like they’re digging up outdated info. The name they had was right tho. The person sounded like they were from East Asia or something.

This number has been ringing my mum a few times now, just today again actually. The person claimed he was interested in buying her Lloyds Bank shares and seemed to know loads about her. He even said he’d call back tomorrow. It’s really upset her, these kind of people are awful.

Got a call saying I could claim back money on some Merrill Lynch New Energy Shares - they said each share could be worth between £2 and £8. But this company has been shut down for ages. Definitely a scam.

Totally a dodgy banking scam. They got in touch asking about my shares and went on about the bank being taken over in some hostile manner, but never said who was behind it. Then they tried to convince me to sell my stocks to some client they wouldn’t name, offering a price way above market value. Complete nonsense!

Got a call from someone with an American accent who started chatting about my Lloyds Bank shares (how on earth did they know that?), and when I asked why they were calling, she just hung up. Pretty clear it's a scam, so I've blocked the number now...

Received a call supposedly from Liberty Global, voice with an Asian accent. They ended the call right away but tried ringing back a couple of times. After about 26 rings, they stopped. Seems pretty dodgy and probably some phishing attempt, just like others have pointed out.

Got a call from a lady with a Phillipine accent, asking for my mum about some Laura Ashley shares. Thing is, mum sold those shares ages ago and she’s been dead for 5 years now. Beats me how they dug up info on shares that were sold years back...

Got a call from a woman with a Filipino accent claiming she was ringing from New York. She said I had old shares in a Spanish telecom firm that were worth £7 to £15 each now, as the company had supposedly merged with others. She asked for my email to send over the agreement and more info about the sale and terms. I felt something was off straight away since I sold those shares years ago. I told her I thought it was a scam and she hung up pretty quick. What’s worrying is she called my landline, which isn’t even listed anywhere!

I was quite hesitant to share any details, though I stayed very polite about it. It ended up being someone eager to chat about my stocks. They kept interrupting me when I said I preferred to speak straight with the company.
